Product Codes and Price Bands

Top  Previous  Next

In this topic we're talking about designing your product codes and price lists.

There are a couple of ways to design your product codes and price bands. Either have one code per product and have the operator select a price band each time a line item is added, or use only one main price band and use a separate code for each product/grade combination. This second method is the recommended option.

Product codes which carry Quality/Grade information

This approach has a separate code for each product/grade combination. Usually in this case the quality/grade should be reflected somehow in the description too.

Example

Code

Description

Price Band

Price

N-PBC1

Porcelain bonded crown NHS

standard

55.00

I-PBC1

Porcelain bonded crown Independent

standard

65.00

P-PBC1

Porcelain bonded crown Private

standard

90.00

Product codes one per product and used in conjunction with separate price bands

This is the recommended method.

This approach has one code per product. A price is setup against each of the available price bands. It's not a good idea to have more than the minimum of price bands (price lists) than absolutely necessary. See Customer discounts for an in-depth discussion on these reasons.

When a product is selected onto the Main form, a price is chosen from one of the available price bands..

On the main form, the Price band used is displayed in one of the Line item columns..

To set up products with multiple price bands in this way, use Control Centre > Products, or Add a New product from the Product selector while on the Main Form. When creating the new product, add price bands and prices using the "Prices (excluding tax)" box on the right.

Refer to the topic Product (Add New) for help with this.
